Purdue Lands Transfer Portal CB Nyland Green
The Georgia transfer will be an immediate impact starter for Kevin Kane and the Boiler defense.
As Christmas Day came and went, and families all over the world shared quality time and gifts with each other, the Boiler Football family might’ve had the best day of them all.
Georgia transfer and the #1-ranked Cornerback (#6 overall) in the Transfer Portal, Nyland Green, pledged his commitment to Ryan Walters’ squad. It was a huge pickup in what has already been a successful and impressive recruiting cycle for the first-year staff. With this pickup, Purdue jumped to #11 in Transfer rankings and #32 overall, according to 247 Sports.
Green, a native of Covington, GA, was the 19th-ranked overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. He held offers from several big time programs including Alabama, Auburn, and Clemson before landing in Athens to play for Kirby Smart.
Upon enrollment, opportunities were limited in a talented defensive back room. During his three seasons at Georgia, Green appeared in just 10 games and recorded 16 total tackles. Now, he will call West Lafayette home and will look to make a bigger impact on a team where he will immediately step in as a starter.
With Green’s commitment to Purdue, he will bring two things with him that should serve dividends for the program going forward. He, first, brings a championship pedigree, as he was apart of the Bulldogs’ back-to-back National Championships. With that, he will also bring big game, Power 5 experience. Having played in the SEC for the past two seasons, he has been pinned against some of the best teams and players in the country. That sort of experience is invaluable to a team struggled against
Green joins fellow former Bulldog, DE/LB CJ Madden. Both should play important roles in the defensive unit. The Boilers wanted to retool things on a defense that ranked near the bottom of the Big Ten, and they have appeared to have done so to this point in the offseason. Now, all eyes are on Coach Walters and his staff to see what other prospects they can bring to West Lafayette before the Transfer Portal window closes on January 2nd.
